Moving into your new home
Here are a few important tips to follow:
1.) Change the locks
Any number of copies of the old key could have been made. Use long screws for additional safety.
Clean the entire house before your furniture arrives. You can do this yourself or hire someone.
Paint the walls and ceilings of your new home the colors you want before the furniture is in the way.
4.) New batteries
Replace all of the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, or get new detectors if they look outdated.
5.) New air filters
Replace all old air filters after you’ve finished cleaning and painting your new home.
6.) Locate your home’s main water valve and electric panel
Know where your main water shutoff valve is in case you need to shut off the water to your entire house.
7.) Meet the neighbors
Take a few moments to greet your new neighbors with small talk.
8.) Check your alarm system
Ensure that your alarm system is working properly (if you have one)
